Welcome to Sheep n Such

Welcome to our blog !! Our home is Western Montana where we have a home flock of sheep, Shetland, Icelandic and a Blue Faced Leicester Ram. Then there is the ranch herd of cows, which is my hubby and his brothers and dad's domain. Plus we have a laying flock of hens, and the requisite dogs and cats.

With our sheep, I have found out that we have lots of wool from them, as well as lambs. We are starting the third breeding season with the Mule cross; Shetland x BFL. This crossbreeding creates hardy, fast growing lambs, especially for great taste and quality while being grass-fed. Plus this is nice so we can market them in the fall, instead of feeding them all winter. Our customers were very happy with their lamb, which is the best.

The ewes are bred the same way this year. Except one young Shetland x Icelandic ewe lamb and 2 older Shetland ewes we hope to get replacements from which are bred to our new Icelandic ram, Wayne.

We have also found our guest room decorated with 3 large bags of yarn skeins plus roving in beautiful natural colors. If anyone is looking for knitting/weaving yarn, or spinning rovings, let me know !! It isn't my intention to have a store, just a natural outgrowth of having sheep.

Our big vegetable garden is under snow right now, however the garden is still with us as we have the last box of green tomatoes from the greenhouse ripening on the counter, along with several ristras of peppers hanging around. And the Hullless Barley and Quinoa that is yet to be completely threshed.
